Belly Blossom Doula ~ Melissa Tuton

There is a power within us that is simply more than we know or can understand. Anyone who has experienced a birth can say that it is one of the most physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual representations of this power. It is a journey unlike any other. Through intention, education, kindness, respect, commitment, and support we manifest our vision of what this journey will be. Though there are unknowns, we trust in the wisdom of our bodies and our babies, and allow ourselves to blossom.

Delivering Violet in March of 2011 affirmed my long known desire to change my career and life. My friend, Laura, who was due in October 2011, was on board with this movement, and hired me as her Doula. She felt my nurturing demeanor and recent natural-birth experience outweighed my novelty to the field. My first experience as a Doula was more than I expected in so many ways. I felt I had no other choice but to head down that path, believing that my intuition, compassion, and ability to coach could come in very handy in the profession. I then went on to complete 32 hours of Doula Skills Training at Bastyr University's Simkin Center that Oct-Nov and attended a Breastfeeding course with Birth and Beyond in January. I have been providing Professional Labor Support ever since, taught a private Childbirth Education Series, and am now partnered with my dear friend and mentor, Kristin, who was my doula with Violet, and has been a Birth Doula and Childbirth Educator for the past 16 years. We hope to birth a beautiful business from our strong bond as women and friends.
